UCW UNITS

Our United Church Women is made up of 6 units. All of the units meet on a monthly basis, mostly in members' homes, or in the Friendship Room at the church. In addition to the regular unit meetings, there are 2 general UCW meetings each year. Following is a description of the units and their special interests. New members are always welcome and encouraged!

Unit 1:
Unit 1 has members of varying ages. The unit programs consist of invited guest speakers on various areas of interest and concern. In the past year, the Unit has made generous contributions of goods/money to the priority organizations established by the Outreach/Mission and Service Committee, as well as to the Salvation Army and the Amherstview Lions Club Christmas Food Baskets. The Unit supports the HUGS Program at KGH. Members enjoy a Fall bus tour. what is most valued by the members of this unit is the warmth of friendship and fellowship they share while carrying out the UCW Purpose.

Unit 2:
Unit 2 completed their Christmas stocking project again this year - making and distributing over 100 stockings to the congregation to be filled and donated to less fortunate children in our community. For 2009, they are hosting a fashion show featuring designs from Expressions Fashion Boutique. They like to organize interesting programs for their meetings to reflect their creativity, and have fun together.

Unit 4:
This unit meets during the afternoon and has a strong emphasis on fellowship. They strive for a variety of programs to promote discussion and expand knowledge, while enjoying each other's company. They provide a canteen for the annual Stamp Collectors' Festival and host the May birthday party at H.H.C.C.

Unit 6:
The ladies of Unit 6 are intent on carrying out the purpose of the UCW. They meet monthly in members' homes (in the afternoon during winter months). While groups plan and carry out programs, a strong fellowship is formed.

Unit 7:
Unit 7 has a unique roll call each month by providing donations for Ryandale House, Food Bank, the Church kitchen, the Youth Shelter, and the M&S Fund. These change from year to year. The ladies of Unit 7 share a lot of fun in working together through their various fund-raising projects and enjoy interesting programs and speakers throughout the year.

Unit 8:
The young vibrant women of Unit 8 strive to carry out the purpose of the UCW. They meet monthly at 7:00 p.m. and enjoy a wide variety of interesting programs. Unit 8 shares a lot of fun in working together. Programs are varied including creative encounters to provide wares for the Bazaar tables. A cottage barbeque in June and a Christmas dinner are popular events.

All women of the congregation are welcome at any unit or general meeting. If you wish further information on the life and work of the United Church Women, please contact our Membership Convenor, Bev Anderson at 389-1422.
